Last Saturday, I had the privilege of witnessing the engagement of San and Junghwa.
I met Junghwa my Freshman year of college at SPU, and really formed a bond with her starting my Sophomore year. Getting the chance to live with her these last two years has been incredible.
I first met San my Freshman year of college when he came up to visit Jung at SPU. I didn't really know Jung that well, but instantly knew there was a special connection between the two.
Regardless of San being a whole head and a half taller than Junghwa (which isn't hard to do...), I don't think I have ever seen San look down on her once in the four years they have been dating. He is one of the most respectful, loving and funny guys I have ever met, with just the right amount of bite to keep Junghwa in line.
San chose this date, October 25, 2010 to propose to Junghwa almost two months ago. Now, there are good and bad things about that: travel plans could be set way ahead of time, but i had to keep a secret from Jung for two months! I don't think any of 810 likes lying on a regular basis, but I will admit it was fun to lie to Jung for a few weeks as she asked why we couldn't to go Oktoberfest in Seattle that weekend, or if I could come hiking with them at Multnomah Falls, or my favorite: "yeah Jung, I think he will propose around Thanksgiving..."
Due to a written request, San gathered all the people Jung wanted present at the engagement and put us in a hotel room Friday night so we could surprise her at Multnomah Falls after he proposed Saturday morning. I decided to drive my Brother's car up to Portland because the hotel we were staying at was a football fields length away from Jung's house, and I've been told my car can be spotted easily... As we were pulling into Multnomah Falls (right on schedule) San and Jung were just getting there (about 15 minutes behind schedule). I think I stalled the car I was so nervous she was going to see us. We took action immediately: Whitney, Leann and Tiffany ducked in their seats, and I took a left onto a street that said "Do Not Enter." Luckily, Junghwa was tying her shoe with her back to us, so she didn't see me stop about 50 feet away from her. We waited around for about half an hour, then tried it all again; this time we were sure they were half way up the hike, and all we needed to do was wait for them to come down.
San, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this special day! I couldn't ask for a better man for Junghwa.
